I'm back!!

Unlike my buddy D, I don't seem to have the discipline to do this everyday. Although I do read hers everyday for my daily fix... Her family is precious and I always get a kick out of what one of the brood has done. Yesterday's event with Whitney just can't be passed up. She knows that I work from home on Monday, so every Monday there is something wrong with her. Yesterday she came into the kitchen wanting sympathy and no going to school. She was waving a thermometer and said "Mom, my temp is 101 and the thermometer has an H on it now". "Whitney, go get another thermometer and test it something must be wrong with the battery", since there is no flush on the sweet little face. Whitney disappears as I continue making lunches. I go to find her, which I did. She had locked herself in my bathroom with the blow dryer trying to heat up said thermometer so she could stay home from school. Oh she is sooooo bad...

What a weekend

I'm behind on my posting. My brother, sister-in-law, nephew, his wife, and my great niece all came to see us this weekend. Big Brother thought he needed to spend baby sister's birthday with her. Funny how he still considers me his baby sister at 39. Oh well works for me. The girls and I are always thrilled to see the baby, she's 2 and 1/2 now. She is a sweetheart. Gracie can't say Lisa, so my new name is "sisa" which is perfectly fine with me. We were able to walk around downtown Grapevine, and Southlake Towne Center. All had a good time.

Broken Hearts

You always know in the back of your mind that someday your kids heart will be broken. It's unavoidable, we've all been through more than once. So Courtney comes in from football practice last night in tears. Hate that!!! I asked what happened, I thought she got a bad progress report or something. Took some coaxing to get it out of her, but it boiled down to a boy. UGH!! The male species.. Apparently she and some kid had been getting along really well and she was hoping for a homecoming invite. She got wind yesterday that he apparently sent a text to a soph girl that he didn't like Court anymore, he liked her. Well of course Courtney was the last one to hear about it and only found out because she does have a couple of really good friends that are trainers and fball players. She was crushed. I told her it wasn't worth it and she boldly told me "How do you know". So I proceeded to tell her that I too had a heart break over a young man in high school and found out about the same way. Of course that many years ago we didn't know what a cell phone was, it was all in note passing in the halls and classes. I told her that I went up to the girl that was responsible for my break up and told her that she was going to end up p'ssing me off and that I would just be the he&% out of her. Courtney's eyes were huge by this point. I told her not to handle it that way, but just to ignore them and act like nothing bothered her. I told her in the end it comes back to bite them.... The girl that up rooted my beau years ago ended up in trouble with many instances and the guy and I are still very close friends. I sent her off this morning and told her not to be upset, cry, or anything. Tell them to screw off, which she smiled and walked out the door.

Guess mom mellowed a little over the years, but not much....

Glamour Girls

We went to Grapefest this weekend as we have done every year for many. The girls always love to go and see what might be new and exciting. Of course, the older they get the more they realize not much changes. But it's always a treat to see Elsie the cow and her baby Beauregard. This year they had some cool cars out and they just had to check them out. Whitney told me that when she becomes a nurse she's going to get the Mustang or the Big Ford truck. Courtney just said she's going to have a nice car, she just didn't know which one yet... We'll see!!

The Star

Well, Little Miss Whitney was the star of her game last night. She didn't miss a serve. WOW!! She was so excited when she got home. Courtney wasn't able to make the game but Whitney was in full re-cap mode. The Jones clan was there to cheer her on as well as some of her buddies from school. What a night!!

Which leads us to today. Both girls brought home progress reports this week. Courtney has struggled in school since the 6th grade. She came home with all A's & B's. An amazing quest... Whitney has all A's except science where she goofed on a test. They both have had learning curves and seem to be doing quite well. Happy Week at the Pustka house. Oh and it was nice outside every day and Mr. Tuff's been happy too...

Go Wolves

Today is Whitney's first volleyball game as a member of the Cross Timbers Wolves 7th grade team. She's so excited and will be even more excited to learn that she is a starter. It's really quite incredible for her to have made a team when I think back about her life. Just four short years ago she underwent major surgery that would forever change all of our lives. Her team of doctors found a tumor in the middle of her spinal cord in her neck region. We were all hoping that it wouldn't grow any and she could escape radical surgery. The girls and I went on a ski trip with our church group that year. Bill Tate, the infamous Mayor of Grapevine, happens to go to church with us. He and I were on a ski lift adoring God's beautiful creations, when he told me he had noticed a change in the baby. She was only eight at the time and he's always considered her the baby. I quitely listened to what he shared with me and made an appointment for her when we got back home. To all of our astonishments the tumor had doubled in size. April 10, 2002 she was wheeled into a 8 hour surgery to remove it. Unfortunately they didn't get it all and she underwent 25 radiation treatments. She spent a week at Childrens Medical Center and another week at an inpatient rehabilitation center. She had to learn how to walk, run, use her entire body all over again. The doctors told me before the surgery there were no guarantees on the shape she would be in when she recovered. Now fast forward four and half years later. She's no longer left handed because the surgery left two of her fingers a little wacky and she chose to become right handed. And she made a team out of 90 plus kids. God bless her little soul..

Mini School

I now understand why my kids come home everyday tired and beat down from school. I walked the halls of CTMS last night as if I was a 7th grade student. I roamed the hallways with the other 900 students parents. I would be tired too from swimming in that big of a school of people. The teachers all seem to be so very nice and concerning of the well being of all the kids, bless them.. Where I came from we only had 400 in the high school and I thought that was big. I can't imagine having to deal with all the pressures our kids do today. Hopefully I can get both girls out of high school and into a wonderful college without to many mishaps along the way. Lord willing!!
